Lately there has been a kitten living around our property, it reminded me of the time a few years ago when I set a cat trap and we caught a little ginger kitten, named Thomas.
I had to tame him to be a nice friendly pet. We kept him in the large trap with bowls of ham and warm milk, we had a little blanket on the floor so he was comfy and also a towel over the top half of the cage so he felt warm and safe. We feed the kitten ripped up pieces of ham and we used kitten milk replacer which you can buy from your local vet.
Cage Set up
Were you wondering how I set up my kittens cage? Well all you need is a cage, food bowls, a blanket and a towel (optional). Start with the cage and place the blanket on the bottom, later place the food bowls just off to the side inside the cage, then if you want to add the towel over half of the roof of the cage.
What to use
We used kitten milk replacer from https://www.vet111.co.nz/oamaru and teared pieces of ham or meat. For comfort we used a blanket from https://www.kmart.co.nz and an old towel.
How to Tame.
I started by giving him his food everyday and spending lots of time not taking him out but just talking to him. Then when he became friendlier we wrapped him in a towel making sure his paws and claws were wrapped up so he couldn't scratch us. We sat with him for hours just patting his head while he was in the towel. One night I took him out of the cage without the towel and then he was such a great pet.
