This week we have welcomed in a new pet into our family. It is a lamb, we had to the baby sheep in because its mother couldn't look after it! He has been with us for about 5-6 days.
Let's get to the good stuff, like its name since he is a boy we called him Oscar. He is now a week and 1 day old! At first he lived in one of the sheds behind our house but now since he is getting older we have decided to put him in a pen with a few baby cows (also known as calves.)
How to look after a lamb!
With looking after a lamb yourself there is risk of it dying, but if you feed at the right time and give it lots of attention it will probably live. One of my best tips is to only take it if its mum has died, if its mum can't look after or if its mother had died ect.
A Home.
Where should it live? Should it stay inside? These are very common questions when it comes to a home for your baby. At first you may think it's cold or that it will feel way better if it lives inside. Well it might, but if its mum was there it would still sleep outside anyway. You have to find a nice warm shed or a pen with soft bedding, that's all you need! Make sure to feed it at least every 4 hours.
A lamb will have many feeds a day the first week it should have about 5 - 6 feeds a day. You may make your milk, but this is how I do it. First get some AnLamb Milk Replacer. Measure 500mls of water and add 2 big scoops of the milk replacer, whisk together and put the mix into the microwave for 30 - 40 seconds (depends on what you think.)
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed your visit xx
Loved meeting Oscar last week! You guys do such a good job looking after him 🐑 x
